After an FLA student and community driven campaign to implement the A-G Graduation Requirements and creating a college-going pipeline, OUHSD has made progress on its commitment to expanding opportunities. I believe our District can do better to prepare our students for college, career, and for a lifelong commitment to leadership and learning.
Research shows relative and joint impacts of neighborhood and school social environments on youth behavior. I will create a taskforce to examine and better understand how and why social ties within neighborhoods, within schools, and between neighborhoods and schools influence student outcomes, attitudes, values, and beliefs.
COVID has created unprecedented challenges to education and our daily family and work life. At the same time, it also presents a one-in-a-lifetime opportunity to re-imagine how we deliver a high-quality education. I will collaborate with parents, partners and stakeholders on Professional Development in order to be able to more holistically support our students, especially their mental health needs, as we seek to transition back to classroom instruction.
Celebrate diversity, create a supportive campus climate and culture of care, and develop more inclusive learning and working environments — for students and staff to do their best.
Call to create working advisory group of district leadership, parents, teachers, staff, students, education experts and stakeholders to develop a 5-year strategic plan to raise our school rankings to be more competative with schools districts in other parts of the county.
It is 2020, and in order to reach organizational excellence and truly perform as a high-performing organization we must adopt a model for Inclusive Excellence.
